  28.                    QUICK START TUTORIAL

  31.  "Blackjack Plus" for Windows gives users all the features needed
  32.  to explore card counting, advanced playing and betting strategies.
  33.  This program has an intuitive interface, designed with the user in 
  34.  mind.  It's easy to get started and learn how to play a better 
  35.  game of blackjack!   
  36.  
  37.  The operation of this program is based on the strategy that you
  38.  assign to each player. Strategies are made up of play decision
  39.  tables, betting systems and a choice of when to take insurance. 
  40.  Two basic strategies are provided for single & multi-deck play.
  41.  You may easily add your own new strategies! 
  42.  
  43.  When you register, you will receive a printed manual which clearly
  44.  explains all program functionality. It shows how to set up counting
  45.  & non-counting stategies, betting strategies, and much, much more!

  47.  This program uses default values for the initial program set up.
  48.  Later, you can set up and save your own configurations.

  51.  1. Execute program:  BJPWIN.EXE
  52.  
  53.  2. The value following 'Hands Left=' defaults to one (1). If you
  54.     want to play more hands, enter any number to 9999999 (no commas).

  56.  3. Start the game by clicking on 'Play' (or Alt P).  
  57.   
  58.  4. Each player bets in turn, on the betting dialog presented.
  59.  
  60.  5. After all players have bet, the cards are dealt.  In the event
  61.     that the dealer has an ace showing, insurance will be offered.
  62.  
  63.  6. Play begins. Each player is presented with a dialog where they
  64.     may select their choice of play. For players set to 'Manual' or
  65.     'Teacher' modes, you will select play options hit, stand, etc.
  66.     Players that are set to 'Automatic' or 'Background' modes will
  67.     play automatically.

  69.  7. Play continues until 'Hands Left=0'.

  71.  8. To end play at any time, click on the 'Stop' button at the bottom
  72.     right corner of the Blackjack Plus playing table screen.

  86.   "Blackjack Plus" for Windows is easily driven with the menu options
  87.   that are always available at the top of the screen.  The options
  88.   are self explanatory, easy to understand and use.

  97.     You may load any previously saved configuration files.
  98.     The currently loaded configuration file is displayed on the 
  99.     program title bar after Blackjack Plus for Windows.

  102.     Saves changes to the currently loaded configuration file.
  103.     Do not save changes to the default file 'setup.bjp'.

  126.   PLAYING MODES
  127.   There are four (4) play modes.  Each of the seven players can be 
  128.   individually set to any of the following play modes:
  129.  
  130.     OFF - Player will not play. It's like an empty seat at the table. 
  131.  
  132.     MANUAL - Play an accurate simulation of casino blackjack. 
  133.     You decide when to Stand, Hit, Double, Split, Surrender and take
  134.     insurance.  
  135.  
  136.     TEACHER - Use the Teacher mode to learn and practice your
  137.     strategies.  You play manually, and if you select a play or
  138.     bet that is not in agreement with the chosen strategy, you will
  139.     receive a warning message.  You will be given a chance to make
  140.     the correct play or you may override the suggestion and make any
  141.     play you choose.

  143.     AUTOMATIC - Players set to this mode will play unassisted according
  144.     to the strategy assigned to that player.  Use automatic mode to 
  145.     put other players at the table with you. just like at the casino!
  146.  
  147.     BACKGROUND - Background mode is a powerful tool, most useful as an
  148.     aid in the evaluation of different strategies, see how they perform
  149.     over the long run.  You may evaluate the results of playing
  150.     blackjack using the basic strategies included with this program.
  151.  
  152.     Players set to Background mode will play automatically with no 
  153.     step-by-step play shown on the screen.  When all the players
  154.     (with a stake) are set to Background, the entire game is played
  155.     without any screen action, FAST!  Hundreds of hands can be played 
  156.     in seconds!  Extensive statistics are accumulated and may be viewed
  157.     and/or printed when play is completed.

  160.   Strategies
  161.   ----------
  162.   You may assign any strategy to any player, from the list on the 
  163.   'Player & Deck Setup' dialog.  Two built-in strategies are shipped
  164.   with Blackjack Plus for Windows; basic_s for single deck play and
  165.   basic_m for multiple decks. These strategies may not be edited.
  166.            
  167.   Users may create their own new strategies. They will appear in the
  168.   list on the 'Player & Deck Setup' dialog (see above). The new 
  169.   strategies may be changed and edited to suit individual needs. 
  170.   
  171.   To create a new strategy:  
  172.   On the STRATEGIES dialog, you can create a custom strategy by 
  173.   clicking on 'New' and entering a new, 8 character name. The file
  174.   extension .stg is enforced.  Click on your new strategy name to
  175.   select it, then click on 'Edit' to reach the STRATEGY EDITOR dialog.
  176.   From this point you may access the BETTING STRATEGY dialog and the
  177.   STRATEGY TABLE dialog.

  179.   STRATEGY TABLE - Click on the Table button on the STRATEGY EDITOR
  180.   The STRATEGY TABLE settings determine what action will be taken
  181.   when a player is using that strategy.  The top row represents 
  182.   the dealer's up card.  The column on the left side represents the
  183.   current total for the player's hand.  The intersection of the row and
  184.   column shows what the player's action will be in that situation:

  186.     S = STAND   H = HIT   D = DOUBLE   P = SPLIT   R = SURRENDER

  188.   Click on the values in the table to change them. Close the STRATEGY
  189.   TABLE dialog and don't forget to save your changes on the STRATEGY
  190.   EDITOR dialog!

  192.   The strategy assigned to a player (see 'Player & Deck Setup' above)
  193.   is used during the course of play, regardless of the play mode. 
  194.   The strategy specifications for player bet amounts and play actions
  195.   may be overridden when playing manually.
